“When beggars die, there are no comets seen; the heavens themseves blaze forth the death of princes.” Shakespeare, Julius Ceaser (1599)
The historic town of Abeokuta, capital of Ogun State, practically stood at ramrod attention as a General in God’s own victorious army and sparkling icon of the Celestial Church of Christ, Superior Evangelist Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye, was laid to rest.
The drums boomed, the cymbals rang and the penetrating sound of trumpets filled the air as the funeral rites of Superior Evangelist Ekundayo Babakayode Opaleye began with a Service of Songs and ended with a befitting interment at the Military Cemetary, Abeokuta, the following day.
He was indeed a great man!
In his lifetime, E.B. Opaleye served between August 1986 and December 1987 as the military governor of the old Ondo State during the regime of Ibrahim Babangida. Opaleye’s patriotism as a military officer, dedication to duty as an administrator and admirable service to God in the Celestial Church of Christ where he served as the Chairman of the Constitution Review Committee, would always be remembered.
Representing His Eminence, Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, Pastor and Spiritual Head of the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide, at the funeral events were Most Superior Evangelist M.O. Ajao, Most Superior Evangelist Olusegun Olarinde, Venerable Superior Evangelist O. Ayodele (Oyo State Evangelist), Venerable Superior Evangelist J.S. Kuti, Venerable Superior Evangelist J. Talon (Ogun State Evangelist) and Venerable Superior Evangelist Albert Popoola.
