SECURITY AND YOU:
The alarming rate at which Innocent lives are cut short by trigger happy psychotic Police officers in our country is a major source of concern.
The only thing we can therefore resort to is to adopt precautionary measures in order to mitigate these wanton killings.
.When driving as a motorist, at the sight of a police check point, please do the needful as listed below.
à). Never Drive Recklessly Towards The Check point.( This can create suspicion on the part of the security operatives manning the point and they can resort to sporadic shooting at the approaching vehicle). It does not matter if your particulars are up to date or not…never engage in hot argument with a police officer in the course of duty. They are not trained in the art of rifle orientation nor handling of trivial issues that don’t call for aggravated assault of any form. Thus, they can be quick to vent their anger by shooting their victim on the spot..
b) Don’t drive when your car papers are expired, most Nigerian Police officers tend to be overzealous, especially when a motorist contravenes traffic laws. If one should find himself in such a situation, the best one can do is to diligently obey the officer and try to be of calm behaviour..Trust me, this mild act can save a lot of unnecessary stress or worries.
c). Try to be friendly when interacting with any police officer carrying a rifle or weapon. You can never predict the state of mind or mood of these officers. Most of them have baggages of mental health issues, their routine comes with a lot of accumulated stress, hence they are prone to erratic outrage and this can lead to accidental discharge.
d). Lastly, It is in our best interest as civilians to understand when to draw a line between unnecessary confrontation with our Police officers. They are not to be countered with one’s proffesional job description as a way of curbing their excessive conducts.
If at worst one is dissatisfied with their conduct, don’t show your displeasure by engaging in verbal threats with them as this might trigger unpleasant reactions.
e). You, as a responsible husband, father, mother, etc with lots of dependants, trust me it will be in your interest to comport yourself with a quantum of civility when engaging our Police men at any given place, time and opportunity.
In the words of Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe who said, ‘it is only a stupid man that argues with a man carrying a gun’
Remember the year is coming to an end and we must be cautious of the evil in the air of the last days before us. We shall not be victims of accidental discharge from any deranged, trigger happy Police officer, in Jesus mighty name. Amen
Remember…To be forewarned is to be forearmed.
It pays to heed the words of caution than to live with the consequence!
